About DIST Background

Introduction to DIST:

Development Initiative for Social Advancement (DISA) one of the renowned NGOs in Bangladesh established in 1993. DISA is working for vulnerable rural people, especially for distressed women and children of the poor households with the objectives of poverty alleviation, awareness building, social violence reduction and improvement of women to uplift their socio-economic status. DISA is operating all of its activities under six major programs such as (a) Micro Finance (b) Agriculture Livestock (c) Health Support (d) Research and Innovation (e) Social Development (f) Education and Skill Development. The microfinance schemes and social enterprises are administered through the following institutions to implement the above programs:

✔ DISA Head office is at E/11 Pallabi Extension, Mirpur-11½, Dhaka-121.
   More than 80 employes are working
✔ Micro-credit 102 branch offices in 20 Districts, 20 area offices and 5 Zonal offices with
   about total of 1100 manpower work with 150000 family members
✔ Aloghar Prakashana (Books Publication, Free library, Students Scholarship etc.)
   Aloghar Nursery (distribution of fruit, forest and herb seedlings)
✔ Matribhumi Dairy Foods Ltd.; Matribhumi Misti & Bakery
✔ Matribhumi Fashion in Dhaka with 2 outlets
✔ DISA Training Centre (DTC) established at Dhaka to conduct refresher courses and
   apprenticship courses for the manpower of DISA.
✔ DISA Technical Training Institute (DTTI) established in 2012 at Chandina, Comilla
✔ DISA Institute of Science and Technology (DIST) established in 2017 at Mirpur-12, Dhaka
   for technical skills training with updated lab-shop equipment & machinery

It also has been Supporting Special projects and activities like Bangabundhu Shikkha Britti, Dress & Relief Distribution to Rohinga Refugees, Covid 19 response activities etc. programs which help to spin off its existing programs as well. Conducting training and educational programs through the establishment of DISA Technical Training Institute (DTTI) and DISA Institute of Science & Technology (DIST) are well appreciated initiatives of DISA. With an aim to impart skills training to youths of marginalized rural families, DTTI were established at Borkoit, Chandina, in the District of Comilla in 2012 and its training program was started from 28 January 2013 on Industrial Sewing Machine Operation, Electrical Maintenance, Computer Operation, Tailoring & Dress Making courses. DTTI was merged to DIST by closing its functional operation due to COVID19 pandemic situation.

DIST was established in 2017 at Pallabi, Mirpur-12, Dhaka, with a view to be attached to the programs of self-reliant Digital Bangladesh. Full-fledged technical Labs and Shops were furnished for providing updated technical skills training. The journey of training programs were launched on the First January 2018 on courses like Computer (MS Office, Net Working, Hardwire maintenance & Graphic Design), Electrical Installation & Maintenance, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and Motorcycle Servicing. DIST runs through proper recognition and course accreditation from authorized bodies of the Government of Bangladesh. The training capacity was increased gradually as a part of continual development.
